On the family farm near Raglan New Zealand, Lynda Hallinan’s grandfather always grew enough produce to feed eight mouths through the summer months.

Once a year he took a day off to turn over his vege garden and put in all his crops in one go. The vege patch was hoed, fertiliser spread and forked in, seed trenches marked out, and everything from butter beans to carrots, corn, marrows, onions, peas, pumpkins, silverbeet, squash, turnips and potatoes then went in.
